Printmaking, Italy
A semester in Rome spent largely on one image, printed in many versions. Each version combines three processes on a single sheet: the figure and the halftone are screen printed, the hand is a laser cut paper stencil, and the background is a mono relief, approached differently almost every time. Some of those backgrounds are textures lifted from an old sock. Others were screen printed in whatever ink color had been mixed that day.
The prints collected here are the ones that were photographed or scanned. The run was considerably larger.
The work was directed toward a poster for Make Keeley JUMP., a short film made at Allegheny. One version was selected for it, exhibited on campus, and later framed and given to Mike Keeley.
The last few prints belong to a separate thread. The repeating pattern was screen printed here first, then printed onto cloth as Textiles, and a year later onto the balaclavas of The Eclipse, my senior comprehensive project or capstone at Allegheny College.
